This clip shows three separate pieces of performance using the same proximal site: the pool and an immediately adjacent piece of woodland/path
Site 2/Pool and surround
Ideas behind the work:
First piece
This piece revolved around a number of ideas:
Adexamen sculpture (see
Appendix C: Adexamen);
proximity of the swimming pool; a hedonistic
approach to the earth; use, abuse and re-use of
land; Bank Holiday (a manic, ludic pursuit of
leisure).
(CL1: the Caer Llan Sestina)
Second piece
The pool party of CL2 was a direct response to
CL1, inverting the overlay of water activity on
land and 'disrupting the landscape' by placing a
land activity in the water. An insensitivity and
dilettante approach to the environment was
recognised by the audience who also
commented on the 'superficiality of city
parties' and 'a witty comment on the futility,
shallowness and repetitive nature of so much of
human interaction'.
(CL2: disrupting the landscape)
Third piece
The MA group in CL3 were given the same sites
as the core research group in CL1. In the piece
shown, the juxtaposition of still sunflowers and
frantic enjoyment of water activities provoked an
aesthetic response to the gentle, undulating,
flowers observing the humans at play.
